Little Paws Bed & Breakfast

Welcome to "Little Paws" Bed & Breakfast

Our Mission

Our mission is to try to make your pet as comfortable as possible away from home during his stay with us. We do enjoy each and every pet and would like to provide love and compassion in your absence.

Hours of Operation

Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Reservations should be made in advance for boarding and during holidays and the summer season.

Sunday Pickup

Sunday pickup 6:00pm - 7:00pm
(Offered most Sundays throughout the year. Please inquire with the staff about Sunday pickup prior to leaving your pet.)

Boarding Notes

FORMS, FORMS, FORMS!!!
Please fill out all forms carefully each time you leave your pet with us. Those forms help us to care for your pet like you would care for it at home. Be sure to note special feeding instructions. When and how your pet eliminates helps us keep up a schedule similar to when your pet is at home. If your pet has a special need, we can be aware of it and try to address it. If there is an emergency, the forms tell us how to contact you. If you will be in a hurry when you drop your pet off, we suggest that you pick the forms up in advance to give you time to fill them out properly.

Regular Boarding

Regular boarding includes proper housing, food and water and exercise according to each pet's needs.

Regular Boarding

Bed & Breakfast

Bed & Breakfast was designed for the pet that likes to board in style, loves attention or needs to socialize with people. It includes a special breakfast, daily brushing, playtime with the staff, a bedtime treat, and a cozy bed for those who promise not to chew it up! There is an extra charge per day for Bed & Breakfast. Owners may elect to have this service for their pet each day the pet stays, or they can give their pet Bed & Breakfast on a selected number of days during the pet's stay. We have discovered through the years that pets who receive Bed & Breakfast love to stay with us! It is also good for pets that need to learn to socialize and pets that tend to be shy and fearful away from home. Occasionally, there are pets with aggressive personalities that we are unable to give Bed & Breakfast to -if so, we will let you know.

Day Care

Day Care is designed to meet several pet needs. New puppies and kittens that need to socialize benefit from Day Care. Pets whose owners are gone all day and who are left in the home alone for extended periods of time will benefit from Day Care. Pets who require daily medications where the owners are unable to meet these needs can participate in Day Care and be properly cared for. Pets in Day Care are dropped off at the Hospital in the morning, at a time convenient to the owner, and left for the day. They are then picked up in the evening, to go home. We will take care of their needs, while they are left with us.

Housing

Little Paws features indoor-outdoor runs for large dogs and active small dogs. The indoor runs are heated and air-conditioned and have heated floors in the winter. For small dogs that like a little more cozy and secure space we have condos of various sizes. All dogs are allowed outside in the grassed-in play areas, several times a day, under supervision.
Cats are housed in duplexes in their own quiet room, away from the dogs. Duplexes have cat houses, benches or privacy screens, if desired. Inside play area and play stands are available.
Rabbits should bring their own cage, food, water bottles and bedding.
Pocket pets are placed in the hospital, as indicated, depending on temperature and lighting needs. Pocket pets must bring their own secure cage, bedding, food, and any special items, such as heated rocks, etc.

Housing

Feeding

Food is provided and paid for with both regular boarding and Bed & Breakfast for dogs and cats. Rabbits and pocket pets should bring their own foods. Owners that would like for their dogs and cats to stay on their regular food may send their regular food along. We prefer food be measured and packed in baggies (one feeding per baggie), and the baggies labeled with the pet's name and the date and time of feeding. Canned foods should also be labeled. Special items that need to be refrigerated should be packed in Tupperware and properly labeled. Please do not send 40-pound bags of food. Please do not change your pet's diet while boarding, or send rich treats they are not accustomed to, as this is an excellent way to end up with a pet with diarrhea!
Animals that are on special diets, such as diabetic diets or hypoallergenic diets, should bring their own food. Owners should be sure to tell the staff of special dietary needs, so we do not goof!

Water

Occasionally, some pets require distilled water. If your .pet has this medical need, we will offer distilled water.

Baths

We make every attempt to keep your pet clean. Please .let us know if you would like your pet bathed prior to going home. Pets can be bathed all days except Sundays. There is a fee for baths. If a pet becomes very dirty, we may bathe the pet, if needed, even if you have not requested a bath. Fees will be charged for these baths. If you know your pet is not a neat keeper and you absolutely do not want a bath to be given, please make a notation on your boarding slip.

Request for Doctor's Examination

Owner's that want a pet examined by a doctor during their stay are asked to make an appointment prior to leaving the pet to board. This will enable the doctor to advise the owner of needed diagnostics, treatments and costs involved. If you are unable to do this, please leave a phone number where the doctor can reach you. If a doctor cannot reach you, treatment will be done as is absolutely necessary and the owner will be responsible for all fees incurred.
Owners of animals that have complex medical conditions that are staying with us for the first time should schedule an appointment with the doctor in advance to be certain that it is appropriate for the pet to stay with us.

Unexpected Medical Care

If a pet needs medical care while staying, attempt will be made to notify the owner, prior to treatment. If the owner cannot be located, the pet will be treated as needed until the owner can be notified. The owner will be responsible for all costs incurred due to unexpected medical fees. The exception to this is simple diarrhea in dogs due to stress or excitement. Occasionally dogs develop loose stools. This responds quickly to anti-diarrheal medicines that are quite inexpensive. Unless you request that we do so, we will not disturb your vacation for mild gastric upset.

Pets on Medications

Since we have a large number of pets on medications, and since the medical board has become very strict about how medications are dispensed and administered, please read and follow the directions below. If you need to have your pet medicated while staying with us:

  1. Medications must be in proper containers:
    1. Prescription medications must be in a prescription container. Bottles, baggies or plastic containers will not be accepted.Items like topical flea-tick products must be in their original package.
    2. All other items of nonprescription nature must be in a suitable container. If you are uncertain, ask.
  2. Medications must be properly labeled: a. name of owner b. name of animal c. date
    1. Name of drug and strength of drug
    2. Directions for giving the drug and reason the drug is being given
  3. Heartworm pills, flea-tick products, vitamins, home remedies and over the counter drugs, must also be labeled and packaged properly.
  4. There will be a charge for administering medications. Please be sure to check with staff to know what these charges are. Owners who forget medications will be charged for medicines dispensed. Medicines that need to be repackaged or relabeled to meet medical board requirements will also incur a fee for this. It is not our goal to make life difficult, rather to ensure that pets are medicated properly.

Odds and Ends

  1. Dogs, cats, and ferrets must be properly vaccinated by a licensed veterinarian. Owners are required to provide proper proof of vaccination. If proof cannot be provided, animals will be revaccinated at owner's expense.Pets will be checked for fleas and ticks on arrival and treated, if needed, at owner's expense. We try very hard not to lose leashes, toys and other items. We try to label and list all items left with your pet. Please do not leave valuable items or items that might be misplaced. Please do not send bedding that cannot be laundered. If we misplace an item, please call and let us know.
  2. Please let us know if your pet is an escape artist, chews on objects or bedding, or is fearful of certain situations, such as thunderstorms.

We hope your pet's stay at "Little Paws" is enjoyable. Please let us know if your pet tells he has had fun while staying with us. Please also feel free to call if there are problems.
